From a study by le Roux FH, Bouic PJ, and Bester MM:
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Bach’s Magnificat on emotions, immune, and endocrine parameters in patients of specific infectious lung conditions. Participants (N = 40; 9 men & 31 women) ranging in age from 40 to 75 participated in the study. Patients were randomly allocated to an experimental and control group. During a 3-day period the experimental group received physiotherapy with the selected music, while the control group only received physiotherapy. ANOVA statistics indicate significant changes in the following parameters: POMS-scale, CD4+:CD8+ ratio, cortisol, and cortisol:DHEA ratio.
Here we see that listening to Bach’s Magnificat while receiving physiotherapy significantly improved hormonal ratios. POMS is the “Profile of Mood States”; the CD4/CD8 ratio shows how strong the immune system is and can help predict the risk of complications and debilitating infections.
Imbalance in the cortisol:DHEA ratio has been linked to depression and panic states. So we see that not only did patients’ immune systems improve, but they had improved mood as well, after listening to the Magnificat.
So borrow a Bach recording from a friend or the library, or bookmark this page or the video’s page, and start listening. You may just enjoy better health!
